The Duality of Art & Fame

SEVYN STREETER

DSRPT: What do you consider to be the most challenging aspect of working in the entertainment industry?

SEVYN: Song writing comes with challenges, artistry comes with challenges, entrepreneurship in general comes with challenges. challenges are made to make you better. one of the greatest challenges is to really really dig in and figure out what it is that you want to say, what it is that represents your art or your brand. I feel like self discovery is one of the biggest challenges.

DSRPT: How do you balance the pressure of delivering successful projects with maintaining your creative vision?

SEVYN:I think that the success of a project comes as a result of maintaining your vision. I don’t believe in chasing success any other kind of way, I think it finds you.

DSRPT: Can you describe a time when you faced ethical dilemmas in the entertainment industry and how you resolved them?

SEVYN: One of the big dilemmas is anytime you have an opinion or a counter thought and you are really really firm and you have your facts to back it up a lot of times it can be taken as being aggressive. I’m not afraid to lose a relationship if that means losing my voice.

DSRPT: What strategies do you use to deal with rejection and failure in the entertainment industry?

SEVYN: I block them all out and go to a beach. I have a daily routine; I wake up, I watch my sermons, I pray, I meditate and I re-center and I refocus on my life plan. I believe that comparison is the thief of joy. Stay laser beamed focus on your purpose. There’s no such thing as failure, that’s just God telling you no in one place so he can tell you yes in another. Just try again.

DSRPT: In your opinion, what are the key qualities that successful individuals in the entertainment industry possess?

SEVYN: We’re relentless when it comes to our dreams. There’s not a person, a circumstance, a barrier or anything that can stop me from getting to my dreams. Nothing and no one. And I think that that is the one thing that all successful people in this industry have in common.

DSRPT: How do you handle conflicts or difficult personalities within a team or project?

SEVYN: I don’t deal with anyone or anything that is not leaning towards positivity or that’s not solution based. I don’t do conflict, I do conversation and communication.

DSRPT: What role do you believe diversity and inclusion play in the entertainment industry, and how do you prioritize these values in your work?

SEVYN: Representation matters. Growing up seeing Whitney, Janet, Lauryn Hill, Toni Braxton; all these amazing black women do music at the highest of levels. I grew up understanding that these things were attainable, achievable because of diversity, because of inclusion, because of representation.

DSRPT: Can you talk about a time when you had to make a difficult decision that affected both the creative and financial aspects of a project?

SEVYN: For me it’s the wearing of multiple hats. I have to think about budgets. I won’t let the art suffer because of the budget. I always put the art first because I really believe in that.

DSRPT: How do you stay current and adapt to changes in the entertainment industry, such as emerging technologies or shifting cultural trends?

SEVYN: Listen to your fans. Pay attention to the people that subscribe to you. I think that that’s a recipe for staying current. Have fun!

DSRPT: What advice do you have for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, particularly in navigating the challenges and opportunities it presents?

SEVYN: Make sure you love it because there’s going to be a lot of days where you don’t like it.
