ISSUE X : BEYOND THE GLASS CEILING: HOW TO BREAK THROUGH
BIG BOSS VETTE
DSRPT.: Can you share your perpetual journey of breaking into the entertainment industry and any challenges you’ve faced along the way?
BIG BOSS VETTE: I had propped my phone up one day and I had did a cover which caused me to go viral and after that I continuously did them back to back. My first manager reached out to me telling me how he would like pay for my studio time and I should just be a real rapper and I’m like “ok let’s try, y’know” and after that it’s just been up from there.
DSRPT.:What are some of the steps that you did to gain exposure?
BIG BOSS VETTE: I just keep posting, honestly speaking. I didn’t boost anything, I didn’t have a cheat code. I just posted one video at like 7 something at night, it was on a school night and I woke up the next morning and I was literally viral.
DSRPT.: Who are some of your influences that you look up to?
BIG BOSS VETTE: One of my biggest influences was Dej Loaf because that is the first cover that I’ve ever done which caused me to go viral but other than that like I have always been that person that would say what the room was thinking. I think by me being that way when I put it in my music and women are able to sing it and scream it with me, it just makes everything better. I love Tupac because I like how he just spoke his mind.
DSRPT.: What are some of the qualities that make you a boss?
BIG BOSS VETTE: The way that I handle my business, the way that I show up, the way that I carry myself, the amount of money that I get… the way I treat people, like I treat the janitor the same way that I would treat the ceo because you never know who’s gonna be who in a couple years. My work ethic is unmatched, like I can outwork any and everybody and my genuineness, my authenticity.
DSRPT.: Who’s some of your style influences or style icons that you look up to or take inspiration from?
BIG BOSS VETTE: I love how Dess Dior be styled, Coi Leray, Teyana Taylor, Fabulous, Big Boss Vette be styling and profiling
DSRPT: If you could describe your style in 3 words what would it be?
BIG BOSS VETTE: I like to be cute, edgy, naked, but make it fashion.
DSRPT.: If you could describe your music in 3 words what would it be?
BIG BOSS VETTE: Raw, authentic, fun
